RESUMO:

Quantitative analysis of chemical substances often requires optical methods such as
colorimetry, spectroradiometry, photometry, spectrophotometry and digital image analysis (DIA).
These methods allow the interpretation of optical phenomena such as color changes that may not be
easily perceptible to the naked eye due to various factors, such as sample composition, lighting angles
and individual color perception characteristics of the human brain. The advancement of mobile
communication and computing has popularized the transmission and display of media. Algorithms are
used to compress images and express their visual content in an appropriate color space, reducing visual
redundancies. Image reading devices replicate the human process of color recognition by analyzing
color information from each pixel and reproducing the sensation through filters that focus on the
maximum values of the mid-wavelength range of the visible spectrum. Digital image analysis is a
technique that has rapidly emerged with the advancement of portable phones. In this method, an image
is captured by a camera and converted into analyzable data through software. The technique uses the
RGB color space (red, green and blue), representing the image with coordinates ranging from 0 to 255,
allowing for greater representation capacity compared to a common spectrophotometer. Imagecapturing equipment can range from digital cameras and cellphones to scanners. The quality of these
devices has significantly improved, enabling the capture of subtle details and faithful reproduction of
the original colors. Smartphones are the most widely used due to their built-in lighting and portability,
as well as the functionality of their cameras and the possibility of using applications. The captured
images can be analyzed directly on the devices or in conjunction with a computer, using software such
as Octave. This study aims to use images to determine the concentration of diluted dye mixtures in
water, with the purpose of developing a versatile and accessible model for society. The use of digital
images as a source of information allows for a practical and non-invasive approach to analyzing the
properties of dye mixtures. The intention is to provide a solution that can be easily adopted by various
users in terms of cost and application, to accurately determine dye concentrations in aqueous solutions,
meeting the demands of society at large. The results demonstrate that for Malachite Green and
Auramine, the B and G bands show greater predominance, with the G band governed by Malachite
Green and the B band governed by Auramine. Pure Malachite Green shows good correlation with the
spectrum, demonstrating that the method is a correlated alternative to a spectrophotometer.
