SUMMARY:

Cities embody diverse relationships composed of essential elements for life in society. Urban spaces experience changes as a result of adaptation to a new context. The urban environment is a dynamic space that is constantly in motion, where many actors are responsible for these changes in its landscapes, forms and functions. In this sense, this research aims to investigate the revitalization and refunctionalization processes and their effects on the dynamics of the Matosinhos neighborhood, in São João del-Rei, during the 20th and 21st centuries, with an emphasis on the period after the installation of the Pátio Matosinhos commercial enterprise. Matosinhos, in the current period, is configured as a space of possibilities for the expansion of real estate logic and property appreciation. The objective is to understand the impacts of these interventions in the local context and identify the transformations that have occurred in relation to socioeconomic issues and real estate trends, as well as the perceptions of residents and merchants. This analysis involves a perspective that recognizes the existing connections in the Matosinhos neighborhood, its local influence and its relationship with the production of urban space.
