This research aims to verify the cases of violence against women, in the procedural collection of the LABDOC, in the Comarca de Oliveira, Minas Gerais, in the period between 1830 and 1850. From our investigation, we were able to verify how the cases occurred of violence against women, how the disputes were registered in the criminal procedural documents and how was the posture of the Judiciary, recently implanted in the nineteenth century society. Throughout our research, we could see how much male violence interfered in social and power relations between people, also highlighting how the female figure was neglected by society and historiography.

This research has as object of study the artist Alberto da Veiga Guignard. Through the outlining of his trajectory and his sociability networks, we seek to investigate the possible ways in which some landscape drawings, produced by the artist, participated in the initiatives and developments implemented by artists and intellectuals with a view to equating the binomial modernism and nationalism in the context of culture of the country at that time. The temporal cut of the research was concentrated between the years of 1942 and 1962 and the spatial delimitation focused on Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and the historic cities of Minas Gerais, main places of performance of Guignard since the artist returned definitively from Europe to the Brazil, in 1929.

This work aims to analyze the sociopolitical and cultural content explored by the chronicles of Fred Melo Paiva, for the column “Da Arquibancada'' in the newspaper Estado de Minas, between the years 2011 and 2019. Analysis of the 350 chronicles published over that period. Subsequently, we cataloged the chronicles through the categorization of their themes. By addressing in his chronicles the themes that relate the universe of football to politics, the chronicler in question outlines criticisms of the current political moment, mainly governments and conservative morals, in order to mark his progressive position. The narratives mobilize descriptions of events related to the soccer metier, relating them to political agendas and social issues that permeate Brazilian daily life. We present this study in two chapters: it addresses “athleticism” or the identity of Clube Atlético Mineiro supporters, through the use of various figures of speech that make up Fred Melo Paiva's rhetoric. In the second chapter, we analyze themes related to institutional politics that set the tone of football chronicles. Through the analysis of the chronicles, we realized to what extent the identity profile of the chronicler – athletic and progressive – leaves marks on his textual production and instigates the debate of social and political themes.

This work aims to analyse the material culture of the slaveholding elite of the term of Baependi in the first half of the 19th century, based on the description of the goods contained in the inventories collected during that period. Material culture is still a field of study that can be further explored by historiography. Although the material aspects of society have had space in national and international history publications, the problematization and discussion about the meaning of material culture is often left out of the questions raised by the authors. Therefore, new contributions to the area of research are necessary in order to encourage debate and the conceptualization of the term. The chosen period will allow us to understand how the socio-political and economic transformations of the first five decades of the 19th century were able to promote changes in the habits and customs of the colonial elites, demonstrated through new forms of consumption, such as luxurious objects and ostentation, described in the inventories. For this, require a thorough analysis of the inventories through qualitative methodology methods, typical of micro-history, highlighting the social, economic and cultural aspects of the society being researched.

The present work proposes to approach the reaction of the Catholic clergy to the advance of Pentecostalism in the city of Campanha - MG in the 1950s, through the newspaper Voz Diocesana, official information vehicle of the diocese created in the city in 1907. The periodical that, as in his words initials, “the aim was to establish bonds of union between the episcopal city and the parishes, between the diocesan assistant and the parish organizations, communicating news about the progress of their activities”; was used as an instrument to combat the newly arrived Protestantism in the city, when the Assembly of God was created in 1954. The association held by the Catholic Church takes advantage of the political condition of the United States and Latin American countries in the context of the Cold War – who fight communism - and compares the American missionaries to the red bloc, as a way of containing the denomination's advance. For this investigation, a qualitative analysis was carried out from printed sources of the periodical, allowing to perceive signs of religious intolerance.

This study investigates the influence of Central African cosmovisions on the formation process of the Ketu Nago candomblé in the Southeast of Brazil, from its foundation in the twentieth century to its transformations in the dynamics between tradition and modernity in the twenty-first century. Here we intend to historically recover the social and academic-theoretical factors that led to the prestige and visibility of religious manifestations of Sudanese origin, that is, Nago, to the detriment and invisibilization of practices originating from the Bantu, or Central African, ethnolinguistic complex. Contrary to what has been established as praxis in the analysis of such manifestations, this research is based on the inversion of the concept of Nagoization of candomblé angola, rethinking the liturgical bases that founded and institutionalized the Nago religion, and shedding light to the process here called Bantuization of religious practices coming from West Africa. The research analyzes other related aspects, such as the concept of syncretism, recent historical perspectives on black popular Catholicism in Brazil, and the various processes of reafricanization of terreiros, debates that are inseparable from the investigation proposed here. To this end, this study was based on observation through monitoring public and private ceremonies of candomblé terreiros, as well as Oral History interviews with leaders of four houses, one in each state of the Southeast.

This masters dissertation consists of a comprehensive analysis of the fountain and its allegory l’Été — O Verão (the summer), installed in São João del-Rei in 1888. Traditionally known as Chafariz da deusa Ceres (the fountain of the goddess Ceres), this urban furniture was produced by the Fonderies du Val d’Osne during the 19th century and represents a combination of aesthetic and functional aspects resulting from the alliance between the arts and the foundry industries. Termed fonte d’art, this expression was adopted to refer to artistic cast iron pieces, defining both the material used and the technique employed, as well as the urban equipment that characterized decorative products produced in series throughout the 19th century. Its installation by the City Council in 1888 was a response to urban transformations and the need to provide a regular service of potable water supply. Among the works undertaken by the municipality, the capture of potable water was among the main priorities, primarily due to the concepts of hygiene, civility, and progress that prevailed in the discourses of a period of rapid urban and demographic growth. After the demolition of the fountains from the colonial and imperial periods, this furniture and its identified counterparts represented the influence of the Belle Époque modernity and the desire to build the image of a modern and civilized city. Thus, based on the iconographic and iconological analysis of the fountain and its materiality, It seeks to understand how political, economic and sociocultural factors favored its installation, as well as the models of inspiration, style, composition and materials used. This research aims to substantiate, through public history and Art History, the value of this fountain as heritage in the public space and to reflect on the relationship of this 'modern' cast iron furniture from the 19th century with São João del-Rei in the 21st century.

The main objective of this dissertation was to analyze the narrative of the superseries “Os dias Eram assim”, a production of TV Globo network from 2017. Set in the city of Rio de Janeiro between 1970 and 1985, the plot explores the context of the Brazilian dictatorial regime, in particular the "years of lead" and the subsequent process of political opening. The narrative focuses on the love story between Alice Sampaio (Sophie Charlotte) and Renato Reis (Renato Góes), whose romance is hampered by the political events of that period of history. The research was conducted based on the methodological approach proposed by Jérôme Bourdon. In the analysis, three prominent elements were identified: (i) the extensive inclusion of image files of the broadcaster's television journalism gives the work elements that promote authenticity, the documentary character and, mainly, a sense of witness to the events of the period; (ii) the character Natália Andrade (Mariana Lima), a History teacher, was used in the narrative as a symbol of resistance, being tortured and elected deputy at the end of the plot. Thus, the teacher's life was influenced by the political events of that context, raising reflections on the contemporary nature of the work, with emphasis on the “National Truth Commission” and the issue of the “School Movement Without Party”. In this sense, a connection was identified between the representation of the dictatorial past and the context of the superseries' exhibition; (iii) the narrative emphasizes the involvement of civil society in the repressive apparatus and its financing during the military dictatorship, with emphasis on the role of the construction industry and the use of the term "civil-military dictatorship". Finally, in contextual terms, the analysis focused on the reception of a "Bolsonarista" inclination on Twitter, driven by Eduardo Bolsonaro's call for his followers to create counter-narratives in response to the plot using the hashtag "#osdiasnaoeramassim," promoting what Napolitano (2021) called “ideological revisionism”. Furthermore, these reactions align with the vision of Stuart Hall, who conceives of culture as a field of symbolic struggle, where different groups compete for the definition of cultural meanings and representations. In this context, a space of memory disputes is evident, in which both TV Globo Network and the "bolsonaristas" resort to the dictatorial past, using it to promote their agendas in the contemporary times in which the plot was displayed.

This present work aims to investigate the teaching of History within the Brazilian Military Academy Based mainly on two main sources – the analysis of a book used as a aid material for “Brazilian military history” classes entitled “Introduction to Brazilian Military History” and a series of “final papers”produced by cadets in training – here we will delve deeper into the study of historical narratives present within the Military Academy. Knowing the impact that narratives of this type have in our social and cultural life and understanding the vitality of the meanings produced by them for the study of the formation of a common military imaginary and for the identity formation of cadets, the intention is to understand how such narratives influence in the preparation of Brazilian military officership.Furthermore, based on the understanding that the Brazilian Military Academy constructs certain representative signs in order to reintroduce the past in the present, we seek to observe how the cadets affected by these representations appropriated them and re-signified them. Understanding the education offered in this space as predominantly banking, the aim is to investigate how this antidialogical practice affected the cadets, the formulation of their work and what the possible consequences are for the production of knowledge within the Military Academy.

The present work has as its main object of study the academic contributions of the professor and sociologist Jessé Souza, as well as his critical theory produced in order to demystify the dominant ideas of Brazilian social thinking, especially those produced in the 1930s by Gilberto Freyre and Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, and later continued and expanded to intellectuals such as Raymundo Faoro, Roberto DaMatta, among others. The objective is to analyze how Souza identifies the existence of a conservative science and a historiographical tradition in the Brazilian intellectuality, both responsible for building a national identity supported by culturalism and patrimonialism, being that way at the service of a small financial elite. According to Souza, these totalizing ideas end up naturalizing inequalities and making the production and reproduction of a rabble of invisible sub-citizens, thus legitimizing a culture of coups d'état sponsored by the elites and the middle classes against radically transformative, inclusive and reformists political projects. Our intention is to examine the possible theoretical and/or methodological limits present in his analyses, which, according to the author, aim to build a new totalizing narrative about Brazilian society. Finally, we will investigate the causes and reasons raised by the sociologist that explain the recent rise of the extreme right wing in Brazil, as well as his theoretical contributions to building a new ideological architecture for the left wing in Brazil.

The aim of this paper is to study the news about Cuba's independence process in Gazeta de Minas, a newspaper founded in the municipality of Oliveira in Minas Gerais in September 1887 by Antônio Fernal, particularly what is known in historiography as the "second moment" of this political process, between 1895 and 1902. Gazeta's discourses and representations in relation to the Cuban independence process are analyzed based on the idea that newspapers were active elements that influenced political, economic and social discussions in the region where they circulated. Newspapers can be seen as a space for the circulation and reproduction of various types of information, themes, attitudes and behaviors of societies and their local and international environments. In this sense, periodicals were one of the first media that allowed access to realities beyond those known on a daily basis. To develop our work, we base our discussions on the concepts of "public sphere" and "sociabilities". Both allow us to analyze how newspapers, through their circulation, generate social spaces and how they become fundamental pieces in the structuring of political and cultural relations.

This study aimed primarily to analyze the biographical writings of Alfredo Ellis Jr. (1896-1974), drawing upon two main sources: "Um parlamentar paulista da República: subsídios para a história da República em S. Paulo e subsídios para a história econômica de São Paulo" (1949) and "Tenente-Coronel Francisco da Cunha Bueno: pioneiro da cafeicultura no Oeste Paulista" (1960). The objective was to comprehend how the author's familial memory, as depicted in the paternal and grandfatherly biographies, is structured and engages in a construction of historical meaning grounded in "scientific" assumptions such as "racialism," geographical "determinism," and economic "determinism.". Furthermore, the biographical writings of the São Paulo historian in the years between 1950-1960 emerge as a fertile source for delineating continuities and reinterpretations developed by the author himself in comparison with his more studied productions as a historian between 1920-1930. Lastly, we can understand the reactualization of the defense of São Paulo regionalism following the "Era Vargas," particularly as the decentralizing regionalist project facilitated by the Partido Republicano Paulista unfolds during the First Republic. This is notably observed through Alfredo Ellis Jr.'s use of a resentful language in the paternal biographies as a means of compensating for dissatisfaction and losses from the author's perspective, concerning the beleaguered economic elite of São Paulo and the centralizing policies throughout the past and present of the nation.Parte superior do formulário

Studying the Arminian text, it is possible to infer that for the auyor predestination is conditional, that is, it implies believing in Christ. For that, grace authorizes the free will of man to act unconditionally. Arminius in this sense is thinking along the lines of tolerant theologians and writers who favor the control of civil authorities over religious life and against those who adhere to a rigid doctrine on predestination and favor the autonomy of the Church in relation to the State.
