SUMMARY:

Quantitative analysis of chemical substances often relies on optical methods such as colorimetry, spectroradiometry, photometry, and spectrophotometry. This study presents a low-cost alternative to traditional methods, offering ease of handling and data analysis. Digital image analysis is used as a colorimetric method, employing the RGB color space to determine the concentration of a specific analyte. Images are captured by a smartphone camera and converted into analyzable data using Octave software. The main objective is to use images to determine the concentration of mixtures of dyes AU, VM, and VC diluted in water, with the purpose of developing a versatile and accessible model. The use of digital images as an information source allows for a practical and non-invasive approach to analyzing dye mixture properties. The intention is to provide a low-cost solution that is easily adoptable for accurately determining dye concentrations in aqueous solutions. Additionally, pH plays a significant role in the spectral absorption of dyes, particularly for VC dye, where the results demonstrate its influence on the absorption range of RGB and spectrophotometric methods. It was observed that in the binary solution of VM and AU dyes, the G band shows a good correlation with VM dye, while the B band shows good results for AU. In the binary solution with VM and VC dye, the predominant bands for each dye are B and R, respectively. Finally, in the VC and AU dyes combination, the G and B bands better represent each analyte, respectively. The results obtained were evaluated and validated through solutions with unknown dye concentrations.
