Breathing techniques in the performance of the transverse flute in view of professors from Conservatories and Universities of Minas Gerais

The objective of this research is to investigate the breathing techniques used by teachers of transverse flute in Conservatories and Universities of Minas Gerais, as well as the pedagogical approaches used for this purpose, and to trace a possible relation of complementarity between the teacher’s methods of teaching breathing techniques and the fundamentals of the biomechanics of breathing. Due to the importance of research on performance pedagogy and the apparent scarcity of works on the teaching of breathing, we believe in the need to register the pedagogical processes of transverse flute teachers about breathing to contribute to the teaching and learning of techniques of breathing can be rethought and improved, raise new questions and point out new researches on the subject. This is a qualitative exploratory research. The data collection technique used was a semi-structured interview. The interviews were done with flute teachers from music Conservatories and Universities in the state of Minas Gerais. The interview questions were elaborated from literature reviews on the theme of breathing in the performance of the transverse flute and the biomechanics of breathing. Data analysis will be carried out
using the Content Analysis technique.
