SUMMARY:

The objective of this research is to investigate whether understanding the meanings of the text of the libretto of the ballet and Orchestral Suite of Daphnis et Chloé by Ravel can influence flutists in the interpretative construction of the flute solo. We chose the excerpt of the flute solo from the Ballet Daphnis et Chloé (1912) by Maurice Ravel (1875 – 1937) as the central object of this study, as it characterizes the dialogue between other artistic languages besides music, such as ballet and prose, in which , throughout the score we find the libretto that describes the Scenes. The research is based on the concepts of intersemiotic translation by Peirce (1977) and Jakobson (1987). We also use references from flute literature that relate the context to the didactics of the construction of musical expressiveness. In a multiple case study, we carried out an experiment with a small sample of 3 flutists participants), involving recordings of the excerpt, questionnaire and interview. Finally, we will analyze the data provided by the proposed experiment based on spectrographic analysis of recordings and interviews provided by the participants, in order to compare the influence of the context on their performances.
