RESUMO:

The work entitled Community resilience in the face of the effects of climate change: the case of the population of the capital of Bujumbura, Burundi investigates the socio-spatial, political and environmental processes that condition the vulnerability and adaptability of urban populations in the face of socio-natural catastrophes associated with climate change. The research is based on the assumption that events such as floods, recurrent droughts and the rise in the level of Lake Tanganyika do not constitute isolated natural disasters, but expressions of an uneven urbanization model, marked by unplanned urban growth, the occupation of ecologically sensitive areas and institutional fragility in the Burundian context. A methodological approach of a qualitative nature is adopted, of an exploratory and analytical nature, structured from bibliographic and documentary research, analysis of secondary data and critical reading of the territory, articulating local, national and global scales. The methodological path is based on references of socio-environmental vulnerability, socio-ecological resilience and spatial justice, allowing for a critical interpretation of public policies, institutional discourses and territorial dynamics. The main objective is to critically analyze the factors that shape urban resilience in Bujumbura, seeking to produce analytical subsidies that contribute to sustainable urban planning and to the debate on climate adaptation in the context of Burundi and the Global South. It is hoped that the results will contribute to academic reflection and to the formulation of fairer urban strategies, sensitive to socio-spatial inequalities and oriented to the reduction of climate vulnerability.
