Presentation

The Postgraduate Program in Bioprocess Engineering and Biotechnology (PPGEnBio) was created in 2023, and is based at the Alto Paraopeba Campus (CAP/UFSJ). CAP is an advanced Engineering campus and is located on Rodovia MG 443, Km 7 between Congonhas and Ouro Branco, 100 km from the capital of Minas Gerais, and 30 km from the historic Ouro Preto.
About the Program
PPGEnBio aims at the dialogical integration of technical scientific knowledge in the areas of engineering, chemistry, computer science, biology and pharmacy. Thus, researchers with different backgrounds cooperate in the execution of interdisciplinary projects that seek to solve technological and industrial problems through biotechnological application, optimize and/or develop new technologies and products that cover regional and national needs.
Mission and vision
PPGEnBio's mission is to promote teaching, research and technology of the highest quality, in order to produce, systematize and socialize knowledge and technology, expanding and deepening the training of human beings for professional practice in the context of Bioprocess Engineering and Biotechnology and national and international cooperation with a view to building a fair and democratic society and defending the quality of life. A group of high-level researchers, teachers and students are brought together around this, capable of interacting collaboratively and bringing innovative and sustainable solutions to humanity's problems.
Our vision is to be a program of national and international scientific and technological excellence in the training of masters and, in the future, doctors who are able to develop and bring to the community the benefits of science, technology and innovation as a viable alternative for mitigating their problems.
Level: Master's

Area of Concentration: Bioprocess Engineering and Biotechnology

Research lines
1. Bioagents and bioproducts applied in industrial sectors

This line of research involves obtaining bioagents and bioproducts of industrial interest. The objects of study will be biological agents and/or their derivatives, including microorganisms or eukaryotic cells as transforming agents for raw materials, biomolecules or other products of biological origin/based with impact on different industrial sectors. The approaches may involve everything from prospecting, identification and biological/biochemical/molecular characterization to production and release. In this way, Bioprocesses can be explored in aspects with industrial application, at the same time that basic science will be linked as an inherent and necessary requirement to Biotechnology and the training of highly qualified personnel.

2. Physicochemical and biological technologies in bioprocess engineering

This line of research involves the study and development of biological and physical-chemical technologies applied to Bioprocess Engineering and Biotechnology, with a view to optimizing biotechnological processes, production and characterization of materials from the entire production chain, computer-assisted bioprocesses and biotechnology and tecnologic innovation.

Hours: Full time
